Water Conservation
Bay-Wise Butterfly Garden This large garden, planted by Parr's students, is filled with native drought tolerant perennials, shrubs, and trees. Drought tolerant annuals like zinnias, verbena, and tithonia - Mexican Sunflowers, etc. serve a nectar plants. This Xeriscape garden is NOT watered. Only newly planted specimens are watered at planting time. The Garden Rule is "If a plant can't survive on its own, it can't stay in this garden." Our native plants spread on their own by seed or runners and are allowed to do it naturally. The garden always has something new going on because it is constantly evolving and changing.
I Conserve Water Badge All classes complete water conservation activities and read books and articles about the importance of water conservation to earn this badge.
The Vernal Pool naturally collects water providing a habitat for specific types of plants, amphibians, and insects that thrive in the wet to dry conditions.
