Healthy Life Choices
Teaching our students to make healthy life choices is major goal of our Green School Program. Living a healthy life is supported by a healthy environment. Health education helps students understand why we need to protect and preserve the environment for future generations. Making healthy choices for ourselves and our world go hand in hand. The "I Make Healthy Life Choices" Badge reinforces the learning that takes place in weekly health and physical education classes for all students.

Shade Structure Grant Award
Parr's Ridge Elementary was built and opened in 2005. Native shade trees were planted on the new school campus but it will be many years before those trees provide shade and protection from the sun. In 2011, students recorded temperatures in the shady and sunny areas on the playground equipment throughout the school year. The sunny areas can get very hot! As a result of their efforts, the Green Team applied for and was awarded an $8,000 Shade Structure Grant from the American Academy of Dermatology to place two large shade umbrellas on the front playground to provide shady areas for our students. Dermatologist Dr. Germanas talked about Sun Safety at the Shade Structure Dedication Ceremony in 2012.
