2nd Grade Bluebird Webcam Grant Application
Students in Mrs. Arnett's 2nd grade class worked with partners to research bluebirds (lifecycle, nesting habits, eggs, chicks, enemies, diet, etc.) and their declining habitat. The class created a bluebird powerpoint presentation to persuade the Mt. Airy Garden Club to award Parr's Ridge a $1,000 grant to purchase a Bluebird Box Webcam. (See the persuasive power point below the slide show!) All classrooms at Parr's Ridge and all schools in Carroll County would be able to view bluebird nesting habits via infrared camera installed in the nest box.
The student's persuasive presentation was a success and Parr's Ridge was awarded a $1,000 grant for the purchase and installation of the webcam nest box. In 2012, three broods of chicks were hatched with 11 surviving fledges. In 2013, two broods of chicks were hatched with 10 surviving fledges. Students and teachers have the opportunity to see the daily activities of bluebirds and the fledglings. Everyone can track bluebird activities on the Bluebird Time Line Bulletin Board. Students learn about non-native sparrows and their threat to the bluebird habitat.

A second grade class researched and created the slide show below in order to persuade the Mount Airy Garden Club to fund our bluebird nest box and web cam.
