STEM training at Parr's for First Grade Teachers - Discussion and planning of the First Grade Garden provided by Mary Hoy, Fall 2012, Nancy Little, Sarah Parsons, Emily Boylan, Allison Wilson, Becky Higdon, Mary Schmidt, Linda Suscello and Erin Wolfe
On December 19, 2012, the second grade team (seven teachers) met with Mary Hoy, CCPS Outdoor School, to research and plan the insectary project. The team included: Rispba Arnett, Andy Cunningham, Jenny Lazarus, Vanessa Stewart, Val Thompson, Michelle Venit, and Terri Warehime. (7 hours)

In April 2013, some of the second grade team (three teachers) met with Brian Shumaker to research and plan STEM activities for our weather unit. The team included: Rispba Arnett, Vanessa Stewart, and Michelle Venit. (3.5 hours)
Stephanie Luette also participated in the STEM PD at her 2012-2013 elementary school
STEM Taining at Parr's - April 2013 -Kindergarten teachers (Kim Hierstetter, Ariel Canter, Ginny Beazley, Amy Knight, Janelle Creighton, Allyson Sealfon, Emily Forsberg) met with 4th grade teachers from Mt. Airy Elementary to develop a partnership for use of the vernal pool. Led by Mary Hoy and Bryan Schumaker.

Second Grade ongoing professional development at least once a month during our weekly second grade team planning sessions. Monthly topics for 2012-2013 were: October-composting; November-solid waste recycling; December-recycling holiday materials to make insects; January-Introduction to the green school recertification web site; February-planning for February 24th green school professional development; March-environmental education to celebrate Earth Day; April and May-insectary improvement and maintenance. The team includes eight teachers: Rispba Arnett, Andy Cunningham, Jenny Lazarus, Stephanie Luette, Vanessa Stewart, Val Thompson, Michelle Venit, and Terri Warehime. (30 minutes per month)

MG Training - Tina Swanson:
As part of the University of MG program, monthly meetings include educational presentations. Volunteer projects often require research and on the job training. She served as Carroll County Master Gardener Monthly Newsletter Editor from 2006-13 which required her to be up-to-date on research, invasive species, diseases, trends, etc. In May, Tina will attend the "MG Annual Training Day" at the University of MD.
